Dr. Marianne Louise Wade
Dr Wade’s activities focus on cross-border criminal justice co-operation and particularly related developments within the EU.
Areas of Expertise
Criminal Justice
Marianne’s expertise relates to criminal justice structures across Europe. With a particular focus on prosecutorial decision-making, she studies the theory and reality of how criminal justice is delivered and what this means for citizens.
EU Criminal Law
Building on her national expertise, Marianne examines developments at the EU level. How substantive developments are flanked and pushed by institutional strength e.g. in Europol, Eurojust, The European Public Prosecutor (EPPO), Frontex - and freer structures - such as Joint Investigation Teams - are particular interests.
Cross-Border Crime
Criminal justice developments are driven by events. Terrorism and Trafficking Human Beings/Modern Slavery are particularly triggering manifestations. Marianne’s research specialisation therefore covers these specifically as well as the so-called Eurocrimes more broadly.
Counter-Terrorism
Teaching at the most diverse of the UK’s premium Law Schools, in Europe’s most diverse city has seen Marianne engage in cutting-edge dialogue with her students. Her scholarship is also marked by this. As a founding academic member of West Midlands Police’s Counter-Terrorism Advisory Group, her expertise extends to the nitty gritty of counter-terrorism, and its impact.
